1988 - Nikki Blonsky an American actress and singer. She is best known for her role as Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray, a 2007 screen adaptation of the stage musical adaptation of the John Waters film of the same name and as Maggie Baker in Queen Sized.

1984 - Born on this day, Delta Goodrem, is an award winning Australian singer-songwriter, pianist, and actress. Signed to Sony at the age of 15, Goodrem rose to prominence in 2002, starring in the popular Australian soap Neighbours as Nina Tucker, and this assisted her in establishing an international music career. Goodrem has achieved eight #1 singles in Australia including all three of her studio albums reaching #1. Her debut album, 2003's Innocent Eyes, made her one of Australia's highest selling female recording artists of all time.

1970 – Susan Tedeschi is an American blues and soul artist, who has risen to fame with multiple Grammy Award nominations, her powerful singing voice, fearless stage presence, and her marriage to Derek Trucks of the Allman Brothers Band.
1951 - Lou Ferrigno - played the raging green monster The Incredible Hulk on the TV show of the same name. He got the part thanks to his glossy credentials as a bodybuilder: Ferrigno was named Mr. Universe in 1973 and again in 1974. The next year he began his five-season run as The Hulk (1978-82), paired with Bill Bixby as The Hulk's mild-mannered alter ego, David Banner.

2006 – Alicia Keys joins David Bowie for a neo soul-injected take on the latter’s Changes to close out a star-studded New York benefit for the Keep a Child Alive organization, which helps AIDS- and poverty-stricken children in Africa. 2005 – The hits compilation Now 20 tops the U.S. album charts. The second highest new entry is Santana’s All That I Am, in at No. 2.
2003 – Kylie Minogue tops the U.K. singles chart for the seventh time with “Slow.” No. 1 in the album chart is R&B hotties Blue with Guilty.
2002 - Viewers of the UK music channel VH1 voted 'I Will Always Love You' by Whitney Houston as the number 1 most romantic song ever. In second place Elvis Presley, 'You Were Always On My Mind' and third place went to 'My Heart Will Go On' by Celine Dion. 1999 – The Recording Industry Association of America declares the Eagles’ Greatest Hits 1971-1975 the best-selling album of the century. The 20th century’s biggest single is Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind 1997.”1999 - The Prince released the album "Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic."
1996 - Robson and Jerome scored their third UK No.1 single when their versions of 'What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted / Up On The Roof /You'll Never Walk Alone', started a two week run at the top of the charts. The actors third and final No.1.

1996 – Bob Dylan allows his song “The Times They Are A-Changin’” to be used in an advertisement for the Bank of Montreal. 1989 – The Starship Enterprise returned yet again – in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier which commenced screening in Australia. William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy headed the cast. Capt. Kirk and his crew must deal with Mr. Spock's half brother who hijacks the Enterprise for an obsessive search for God.

1989 – Cold War: Fall of the Berlin Wall. Communist-controlled East Germany opens checkpoints in the Berlin Wall allowing its citizens to travel to West Germany. People start demolishing the Berlin Wall.
1988 - No. 1 Billboard Pop Hit: ``Wild, Wild West,'' The Escape Club. A different song with the same title is also released in 1988 by Kool Moe Dee, and again in 1999 by Will Smith with Dru Hill and Kool Moe Dee. That single Also tops The Billboard Hot 100.
1985 - America welcomes Charles and Diana - The royal couple end their first day of a four-day visit to the States at a gala dinner in Washington hosted by President Reagan.

1985 – The theme from the TV show “Miami Vice” climbs to the No. 1 spot in the Chart Toppers Hot 100. The theme is composed by Czechoslovakian artist Jan Hammer, composing the original music for the television series. Miami Vice Theme remains on top for one week. The “Miami Vice” soundtrack LP also goes to No. 1 and stays there for 11 weeks, beating out the previous and long-time (1959) record holder, “The Music from Peter Gunn.”
1984 - A bronze statue titled "Three Servicemen," by Frederick Hart, was unveiled at the site of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC.
1980 - Bob Dylan begins his 'Born-Again Christian' tour of US 1978 – No. 1 US Chart Toppers Pop Hit: “MacArthur Park,” Donna Summer. Richard Harris hit No. 2 with his version of the song in June 1968.
1976 - The U.N. General Assembly approved ten resolutions condemning the apartheid government in South Africa. 1976 - In the wake of the reformed Fleetwood Mac's great success with their latest, self-titled album, one of the band's earlier albums "Mystery to Me" goes gold.
1975 – David Bowie is tonight’s guest star on the TV show Cher. He and Cher perform a medley of “Young Americans,” “Song Sung Blue,” “One,” “Da Doo Ron Ron,” “Wedding Bell Blues,” “Maybe,” “Day Tripper,” “Ain’t No Sunshine,” and “Youngblood.”
1974 - Carole King scored her third US No.1 album with 'Wrap Around Joy'. 1973 – Billy Joel releases his album Piano Man. 1962 - Motown Records releases the Miracles' "You've Really Got a Hold on Me," which will top out at #8 on the pop chart and will be covered by the Beatles, Cayle McCormick and Eddie Money. The song marks the first production by Miracles lead singer/songwriter Smokey Robinson 1960 - John F Kennedy becomes the youngest elected president of the United States.

1959 - Today marks the start of what Billboard calls "one of the most frantic weeks in the history of the music business," as the US government probe into disc jockey payola steps up. 1955 - Harry Belafonte recorded Jamaica Farewell and Come Back Liza for RCA Victor. The two tunes completed the Calypso album which led to Belafonte’s nickname, ‘Calypso King’. 1938 - 24-year-old Mary Martin made her Broadway stage debut in the musical comedy Leave It to Me. She brought down the house as she sang My Heart Belongs to Daddy. Critics raved about New York’s bright new star.

1938 - Nazi troops and sympathizers destroyed and looted 7,500 Jewish businesses, burned 267 synagogues, killed 91 Jews, and rounded up over 25,000 Jewish men in an event that became known as Kristallnacht or "Night of Broken Glass." 1888 - Jack the Ripper: The last known murder by the brutal killer is committed. For three months he had murdered and mutilated prostitutes in London's East End. He was never caught.
