BIRTHDAYS - 1996 - Max Baldry - a British actor who is best known for his role as Stepan in Mr. Bean's Holiday. He has also appeared in "The Little Polar Bear 2: The Mysterious Island" (2005); he was the voice for Chucho, as well as in the television series Rome in which he played the character of Caesarion, son of Julius Caesar and Cleopatra. 1987 - Kristin Cavallari - an American reality television personality and actress best known for her appearances in the MTV series Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County and its spin-off, The Hills. 1981 - Brooklyn Sudano - an American actress who played Vanessa Scott on My Wife And Kids and Felicia on Cuts. 1978 - January Jones - an American actress most famous for her role as Betty Draper on the television show Mad Men. Jones has had supporting roles in Anger Management (2003), Love Actually, and Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. In 2005 she appeared as a U.S. border guard's frustrated wife in the film The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada directed by and starring Tommy Lee Jones. 1975 - Bradley Cooper – American actor - who is best known as The buddy who's a schoolteacher in The Hangover. Sandy-haired and politely scruffy actor Bradley Cooper played hapless reporter Will Tippin in the Jennifer Garner series Alias. Cooper. He appeared in Sex and the City (with Sarah Jessica Parker) and the Discovery Channel's Treks in a Wild World before landing the best-buddy role in Alias, a part he played for the first two seasons (2001-03). TV appearances including starring in the short-lived series Kitchen Confidential (2005, with Jaime King), and then Cooper made the leap to feature films, with a specialty in comedy: The Wedding Crashers (2005, starring Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn); Failure to Launch (2006, with Zooey Deschanel); The Rocker (2008); He's Just Not That Into You (2009, with Scarlett Johansson); and All About Steve (2009, opposite Sandra Bullock). Keaton began her career on stage, and made her screen debut in 1970. Jennifer Aniston plays a woman who learns that her family was the inspiration for the book and film "The Graduate" -- and that she just might be the offspring of the well-documented event 2006 - In Las Vegas, Nevada, the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show is held, over four days. Microsoft announces that later in the year it will release an add-on HD-DVD drive for the Xbox 360 for movie viewing. 2004 – Backstreet Boy A.J. McLean chases down and captures a jewel thief in the parking lot of Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Hotel. McLean was trying on watches at the hotel’s boutique when the man ran off with a $40,000 diamond ring. 2004 - Vice-President Cheney: Cheney and Supreme Court Justice Scalia go on a three-day hunting trip together. Scalia would later refuse to recuse himself from a pending court case involving Cheney that the court had agreed to hear just three weeks earlier. 2003 - Little Richard guest-stars on the "Special Edna" episode of Fox's The Simpsons. 2003 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A video arcade is shown at a large theme park. Deceived that he had won the Prize, Connor MacLeod awakens from a peaceful life when an entombed immortal magician comes seeking the Highlander. 1993 - Oil tanker runs aground off Shetland - A tanker carrying 85,000 tonnes of crude oil has run aground in hurricane force winds off the Shetland Islands. The captain and crew of the vessel were airlifted to safety by helicopter when it became clear the disaster was imminent. 1992 - "Six Degrees of Separation" closes at Vivian Beaumont New York City after 496 performances 1991 - Madonna went to No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Justify My Love', a song co-written with Lenny Kravitz and No.2 hit in the UK. 1987 – President Ronald Reagan produces the nation's first trillion-dollar budget. 1985 - Israel ends major Ethiopian rescue mission - Israel has airlifted thousands of Jewish Ethiopian refugees out of Sudan, it has emerged. Operation Moses, which has been taking place in secret since 21 November 1984, has been suspended since news of the covert airlift became public. 1984 – Risky Business starring Tom Cruise, Rebecca De Mornay and Joe Pantoliano starts to screen in Australia. A Chicago teenager is looking for fun at home while his parents are away, but the situation quickly gets out of hand. 1980 - Donna Summer scored her third US No.1 album with 'On The Radio- Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 & II.' 1980 - KC and the Sunshine Band had their 5th US No.1 single and scored the first No.1 of the 80's when 'Please Don't Go' went to No.1 in the UK. 1979 - The double-album soundtrack to the film Saturday Night Fever reaches sales of 25 million worldwide, making it the best-selling LP in history. 1979 - Prince made his live debut at the Capri Theatre, Minneapolis. 1979 – The Blues Brothers top the American album charts with Briefcase Full of Blues. The album goes on to sell two million copies. 1975 - The Broadway premiere of The Wiz received enthusiastic reviews. Moviegoers, however, gave a thumbs down to the later cinema version of the musical that starred Diana Ross and Michael Jackson. Nixon announced that NASA would proceed with the development of a reusable ‘low cost’ space shuttle system. He signed a $5.5 billion dollar bill for its creation. 1971 - 1st one-day international, Australia vs. England at the MCG 1968 - "Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits" goes gold just nine months after its release. The album package includes an award-winning poster by graphic artist Milton Glaser. 1967 - In order to avoid the draft, folk singer Jesse Winchester moves to Canada. 1965 - The Supremes recorded "Stop! In the Name of Love" 1963 - Leonard Chess, co-founder of Chess records, tells Billboard magazine, "As it stands today, there's virtually no difference between rock and roll, pop and rhythm and blues. The music has completely overlapped."

I’m Mr. Ed!” “A horse is a horse, of course, of course”... Mr. Ed, the talking horse, debuted for what would be a six-year run. The show starred Alan Young as Ed’s owner, Wilbur Post. Wilbur’s wife, Carol, was played by Connie Hines. Good old neighbor Roger Addison was Larry Keating. 1959 - Buddy Coral Records releases what will be Buddy Holly's last record before his death, "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" backed by "Raining in My Heart." The first tune was one of the few he recorded that he didn't write. It was penned by Paul Anka. It peaked at #13 two months after he passed away. 1958 - Pat Boone is the mystery guest on CBS-TV's "What's My Line?" 1957 - Pat Boone begins filming his movie Bernardine. 1955 - A tune used in a Studio One production became the #1 song on the pop music charts this day. Joan Weber’s song, Let Me Go, Lover, rode the hit parade as the most popular record in U.S. for four weeks straight. Before being aired on television, the song had only been heard on a limited basis. 1955 - LaVern Baker's "Tweedle Dee" enters the R&B chart. It will later peak at #4 and become the first of Baker's 13 R&B Top Twenty hits

1952 - Pee Wee King's "Slow Poke" hits #1 in the US 1951 - The Goofy film Lion Down is released. 1950 - No. 1 Billboard Pop Hit: ``Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer,'' Gene Autry. It seems she sang the song in the film, That Night in Rio. 1940 - The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) got its very first demonstration of FM radio. The new medium, free of interference, static, and noise in thunderstorms, was developed by Major E.H. Armstrong. The first FM transmitter was put in operation in 1941. 1935 - The Silly Symphony short The Tortoise and the Hare - a retelling of Aesop's fable - is released. It wins an Academy Award for Best Short Cartoon. 1933 - What is now a symbol of the great American West, the Golden Gate Bridge, went under construction. It would be called an engineering marvel when completed. Spanning the deep channel at the entrance to San Francisco Bay, with the Bay on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other, few people-made things are as beautiful as the Golden Gate Bridge. 1932 - Disney's 26th Silly Symphony film The Bird Store is completed. Directed by Wilfred Jackson who played an important role in synchronizing sound to the movements of animated characters - the film will be released later in the month. 1925 - Mrs. Nellie Taylor Ross was sworn in as the governor of Wyoming She was the first female governor in the U.S. 1914 - Ford Motor Company announced that there would be a new daily minimum wage of $5 and an eight-hour workday. 1903 - San Francisco - Hawaii telegraph cable opens for public use 1896 - It was reported by The Austrian newspaper that Wilhelm Roentgen had discovered the type of radiation that became known as X-rays. 1891 - Australia's great shearers' strike, which led to the formation of the Labor Party in Australia, begins.

1643 - The first legal divorce in the American colonies was granted, to Anne Clarke of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, from her absent and adulterous husband, Denis Clarke, by the Quarter Court of Boston, Massachusetts.
