TRIVIA BITS … MEXICAN SPORTS CAR

TRIVIA BITS …

MEXICAN SPORTS CAR

This beefy-looking sport is claimed to be Mexico's first homegrown automobile, created by the Mastretta brothers in Mexico City. The Mastretta MXT is powered by a mid-mounted, Cosworth-developed turbocharged 2.0-liter Ford Duratec, with 240 bhp fed through a 5-speed transaxle. The Mastretta's are claiming a 150-mph top speed and 0–60-mph in less than five seconds.

The car's light weight can be attributed to its chassis construction, which is based around aluminum extrusions, box sections and a carbon-fiber/aluminum sandwich floor; bodywork is fiberglass. We must say the car displayed at the show in London left something to be desired in terms of fit, finish and shut lines.

Production will be limited to 200 cars per year with assembly starting next year. Sticker price will be around $60,000.
