MAMBO ITALIANO

MAMBO ITALIANO A musical adaptation of Mambo Italiano, the Steve Galluccio play and its subsequent 2003 independent film, may be dancing its way to Broadway in 2013, according to Le Journal de Montreal.

"The project is very serious. I work with a producer that is packed and everything could be finalized this fall," playwright and screenwriter Galluccio told the newspaper. Galluccio does not plan to compose music for the show, opting to "rely on the experts" for that job.

Based on Galluccio's own experiences, Mambo Italiano tells the story of Angelo Barberini, the son of Italian immigrants, who shocks his eccentric, but conservative family when he reveals he's gay. At the same time, Angelo's boyfriend and childhood best friend struggles to come out to his own Italian family. Gallucio's other writing credits include the film Surviving My Mother and the Canadian TV series Ciao Bella.
