PETER JACKSON
In his early days as an amateur director, Peter Jackson spent considerable time and effort devising his own special effects on an extremely tight budget.
For the gory zombie horror Bad Taste (1987) he even created latex prosthetic zombie heads which he baked at home. He made so many that his family who were denied access to their oven reportedly spent several weeks eating fried sausages for dinner.
