A museum dedicated to late music legend Ray Charles has opened in Los Angeles.

The Ray Charles Memorial Library, comprising of seven galleries in an office building the star had built in the inner city Harvard Heights neighbourhood, officially opened on September 23, on what would have been the star's 80th birthday.

It's filled with music and video recordings, memorabilia and Charles' personal belongings.

The museum is run by a non-profit organization Charles founded in 1986 to help underprivileged kids and the museum is currently only open for school groups. The general public is expected to be allowed entry in 2011.
