FIVE DAYS A YEAR PUTTING MAKE UP ON

This comes as no surprise to the men who are forever kept waiting for their other half to beautify herself before a night out.

The time the average woman spends perfecting her look in front of the mirror amounts to five days a year according to British researchers.

Between them, British women use enough lipstick each day to draw a line from London to  New York and that’s in addition to 880 gallons (4000 litres) of foundation and more than 16 million sweeps of the mascara wand.

Almost 40 percent said they wouldn’t think of leaving the house without makeup, while 19 percent would rather spend less on food than slash the beauty budget, with only one in four saying cosmetics were an essential rather than a luxury.

Women spend an average of $1060 a year on beauty products, more than $69,000 in a lifetime. 53 per cent say that the recession has had little or no impact on their purchasing patterns.
