The popular 1985 movie The Goonies may be headed to the Broadway stage. At an event celebrating the film's 25th anniversary, director Richard Donner revealed to Empireonline.com that a musical adaptation of the film is in the works.

"There's a great writer/producer called Tim Long who does musicals on The Simpsons which are classic," said Donner. "He just delivered a treatment of The Goonies as a musical, and it's friggin' great!"

The Steven Spielberg-penned classic stars Broadway veterans Martha Plimpton and Josh Brolin, as well as Corey Feldman and Sean Astin, as a group of teenage treasure hunters.

Should the musical make its way to the Great White Way, there’s famous face who may be happy to help out. Back in 2002, when Glee star Matthew Morrison took on his first Broadway leading role in Hairspray, the actor revealed to Broadway.com he hoped to someday adapt the film for the stage. "I've had the idea for a long time, and I want to start really putting it to work: The Goonies," Morrison said. "Wouldn't it be awesome onstage? I could play the older brother."
