VOLCANOES
The word “Volcano” comes from Vulcan, the Roman God of Fire. Romans believed that Mt Etna on the east coast of Sicily was Vulcan’s forge.
At more than 2 miles (3kms) high, it is Europe’s largest active volcano and one of the most active in the world being in a state of almost continual eruption.
