Queen have signed a new record contract with Universal Music Group after nearly 40 years on the EMI label.

BBC News reports that the deal will allow for all of Queen's back catalogue to be digitally re-mastered.

The band's first five albums are to be re-released in March to commemorate their four-decade-long career.

Guitarist Brian May expressed pleasure about the band's new home at Universal by saying: "We are very excited, after all this time, to be embarking on a new phase of our career."

Queen join Paul McCartney, Radiohead, and The Rolling Stones as high profile acts who have left EMI since it was purchased by private equity group Terra Firm three years ago.
