When's the last time you paid any attention to the airplane safety spiel?

Cebu Pacific, a low-cost Filipino airline, is trying to up the percentage of passengers who do, courtesy of a choreographed routine for its flight attendants with Lady Gaga and Katy Perry as the soundtrack.

"Cebu Pacific has always been known as a fun airline; we wanted to get the message across to our customers that flight safety doesn't have to be boring," company officials told the U.K.'s Telegraph.

"This was an experiment that we hope to repeat and also a chance to showcase the talent of some of our cabin crew staff."

TONY CURTIS 1

Tony Curtis has passed away at the age of 85.

Tony Curtis molded himself from a 1950s movie heartthrob to a respected actor, showing a determined streak that served him well with such films as "Sweet Smell of Success," "The Defiant Ones" and "Some Like It Hot."

Curtis began in acting with frivolous movies that exploited his handsome physique and appealing personality but then steadily moved to more substantial roles, starting in 1957 in the harrowing show business tale "Sweet Smell of Success."
In 1958,

"The Defiant Ones" brought him an Academy Award nomination as best actor for his portrayal of a white racist escaped convict handcuffed to a black escapee, Sidney Poitier. The following year, he donned women's clothing and sparred with Marilyn Monroe in one of the most acclaimed film comedies ever, Billy Wilder's "Some Like It Hot."

His first wife was actress Janet Leigh of "Psycho" fame; actress Jamie Lee Curtis is their daughter.

LEFT BEHIND IN HOTELS

mobile phones

Money, clothes, mobile phones and jewellery are the most common items guests leave behind in the rush of checking out. But in some instances, housekeeping comes across some very strange things.

The items: One guest had left a goldfish; another left tubes of fake blood.

What happened to them? A room attendant adopted the fish, while the fake blood was presumably thrown away (or perhaps, kept for the next Halloween party).

The item: A baby

What happened to it? The infant was later reunited with its parents, who, according to shocked staff, did not seem at all agitated about the incident.

The items: A hermit crab was found in the bathroom sink and in another room, four pigeons were discovered.

What happened to them? The crab was kept for three days by Housekeeping. The birds were apparently used in a magic show in the ballroom the day before they were found. Both were eventually sent to an animal care centre.

The items: An UK budget hotel chain has had a record number of teddy bears – 75,000 – left behind at its 452 hotels in the past year. To find out the reason behind the nation's fascination with the toys, the company surveyed 6,000 Britons. Key findings revealed that 35 percent of adults admitted they slept with their teddy because they found cuddling their bear comforting. Also, the calming feeling of a bear hug also helps them to de-stress after a hard day. A quarter of male respondents reported they took their teddy bear away with them when going away on business. It reminded them of home and a bear cuddle helped them to nod off as they missed a bedtime cuddle from their partner.

In addition, over a quarter of adults, 26 per cent used a teddy bear hot water bottle so that they could have a warm bear hug to help them sleep. Psychologist Corrine Sweet said: “Cuddling a teddy bear is an important part of our national psyche as it evokes a sense of peace, security and comfort. It’s human nature to crave these feelings from childhood to adult life, which is why 35 percent of British adults sleep with their teddy bear. It's not surprising, then, that taking a cuddly bear on a business trip is so popular, even among men."

The item: a male partner hand-cuffed to the bed following a tremendous row the night before.

What happened to it?: It is not known if the female guest returned to claim the item left behind

Sony has released a new poster for director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’s The Tourist.  The film stars Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie and it was filmed on location in Venice.

While some posters can be considered high art and are the type to hang on your wall, the new poster for The Tourist is about one thing: letting you know Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie are in this movie.  It’s not trying to tell you what it’s about.  It’s not trying to sell you on the action or drama.   Instead, the poster just wants to let you know two of the biggest movie stars on the planet are together and in one movie.

Frank is an American tourist visiting Italy to mend a broken heart. Elise is an extraordinary woman who deliberately crosses his path. Against the breathtaking backdrop of Venice, Frank pursues a potential romance but soon finds himself the pursued as he and Elise are caught in a whirlwind of intrigue and danger.  The Tourist stars Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, Rufus Sewell, and Timothy Dalton.

IT’S NOW … OCTOBER

IT’S NOW…

OCTOBER

October is the tenth month of the Gregorian calendar and one of the seven months with 31 days. In the Northern Hemisphere, autumn leaves have fallen and living things prepare to hide away for winter. It is the opposite in the Southern Hemisphere, spring is unfolding.

Originally the eighth month of the year, October gets it name from the Latin and Greek octo meaning “eight”.

BIRTH FLOWER

marigold-herb

Marigold or calendula is the birth flower for October. Its Latin meaning is “throughout the months”. It signifies grief and jealousy, and has many medicinal purposes due to its anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties. Called Mary’s Gold by early Christians, the flower was associated with the Virgin Mary and put around her statues as offerings.

BIRTHSTONE

opalteardrop

Pink tourmaline and beryl are associated with this month. The modern October birthstone is opal. Beryl is unremarkable except in its green form – emerald – and its blue form – aquamarine. The name opal comes from the Latin opalus for precious stone. Its chemical makeup is similar to quartz but with pockets or spheres filled with water. This creates the beautiful, multi-coloured light-refractive properties of opals.

STAR WARS

All of the Star Wars films will return to the big screen — only this time, in 3D.  We’ve been hearing rumours about this for a while, but THR now confirms that George Lucas will be releasing new 3D conversions of the films beginning in 2012.

The plan is to release all six films — starting with The Phantom Menace — in the early months of 2012.  Depending on how well The Phantom Menace does, each subsequent Star Wars film will be released in order at the same time each following year.  It will supposedly take that long between each film because, according to Lucas, each conversion takes at least a year to complete and to perfect.

Since the release of the following films depends on the box office gross of The Phantom Menace, will we really get to see A New Hope or Empire Strikes Back get their theatrical re-releases in 2015 and 2016?

All of these films will be post-converted with what we have seen so far has been nothing but badly post-converted 3D films.  It will be interesting to see how the 3D in these films will turn out.
