TRIVIA BITS … BIRD MIGRATION

 

Until the nineteenth century, it was unclear why many European birds disappeared for the winter. There were many theories including the possibility that they spent the cold months on the moon! In 1822, scientists were given a clue when a white stork in Germany was found to have a central African arrow through its neck. Since then, more than twenty examples of ‘arrow storks’ or Pfeilstorchen, have been found.
