TRIVIA BITS ... OLYMPIC SWIMMING

 

Four strokes are recognized in Olympic swimming. In descending order of speed:

Freestyle or crawl

Butterfly

Backstroke

Breaststroke

The sidestroke was an Olympic event from 1968 until 1984 – all the sidestroke records were set by Australian Stephen McKenzie at the FINA World Swimming Championships in Guayaquil, Ecuador in 1982.
