TRIVIA BITS ... PRINTING PRESS

 

Although Gutenberg did independently invent the printing press, he was not the first. Four hundred years earlier in 1041, a Chinese inventor Bi Sheng created a form of move-able type press that used characters made of porcelain. He is probably less well known because the complexity and number of characters in the Chinese language made his breakthrough less influential than Gutenberg’s.
