TRIVIA BITS ... LIFESAVING

Several swimming styles are used specifically for lifesaving. To search for someone in trouble, rescuers can keep their eyes above water level with a ‘heads up’ version of the crawl or breaststroke. To tow a person to safety, lifeguards swim on their backs using just the leg movements of breaststroke or use sidestroke in which one arm does all the work. This allows the swimmer to hold the person with the other.
