TRIVIA BITS … OLYMPIC GAMES

The founder of the modern Olympics, Pierre de Coubertin, was French. Hence the official language of the games is French. Wherever in the world the opening and closing ceremonies occur, the speeches given by the Chairman of the International Olympic Committee are in French. Coubertin was inspired by the work of Dr William Penny brooks who had attempted an earlier revival of the Olympic Games in Britain.
