WORLDWIDE OBESITY ON THE RISE

obesity

Worldwide obesity rates have nearly doubled over that past 30 years, but rich nations are doing a better job controlling high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels.

High-income American men, though, still rank number one for being overweight (60 percent). American women rank fourth for obesity and second for overweight tendencies. Women from southern Africa rank number one.

On the flip side, Japanese men and women remain thin, with no budge upward at all in their body mass index. The average Japanese woman’s BMI is 22, or 124 pounds for someone who’s 5′3″; the average Japanese man weighs about 10 pounds more.
