The first Olympic Winter Games were held in 1924, when the International Olympic Committee sanctioned an ‘International Winter Sports Week’ at Chamoix in France. The Winter Games were held in the same years as the Summer Olympics until 1994 when the schedule was changed so that they alternate every two years.
