STAGE TO SCREEN … CAMELOT

459830.1020.A

A visually stunning retelling of the Arthurian legend, Camelot centres on the destruction of the idyllic world of knighthood as a result of the tragic triangular relationship of the King, his Queen, and Sir Lancelot. The musical reunited most of those responsible for  My Fair Lady: Lerner, Loewe, Hart.

During pre-Broadway tryouts, Lerner was hospitalized and Hart had a heart attack. Though the opening-night critics were mostly un-enthusiastic, the show had a large advance ticket sale. Once he recovered sufficiently, Hart redirected many scenes, including the ending, which - at the suggestion of critic John Chapman-was made more optimistic.

A previous Broadway view of King Arthur's court was Rodgers and Hart's 1927 musical satire A Connecticut Yankee.
