In the early 196Os, Martha Reeves, lead singer of Martha and The Vandellas, joined Detroit's Motown Records as a secretary after graduating from high school.

Reeves sang background vocal on Marvin Gaye's Hitch Hike (Tamla 54015), Stubborn Kind Of Fellow (Tamla 54068), and Pride and Joy (Tamla 54079), all three released in 7962 and 1963.

Prior to Gladys Knight and The Pips' 1974 recording I've Got To Use My Imagination (Buddah 393), the song had been recorded by Martha Reeves, who provided all her own vocal background.

The same year in which she filed for bankruptcy,1973, Martha sang the title song for the movie Willie Dynamite.

Martha was once a babysitter for a young Stevie Wonder.
