AUDIO BOOKS FOR STOCKING FILLERS


Jenny Nimmo's The Snow Spider

The first book in the Magician Trilogy. It begins the story of young Welsh boy Gwyn who, on his ninth birthday, is told by his grandmother that he may be a magician like his ancestors. She gives him five odd gifts to help him on his quest to discover himself, and to find his missing sister. The book is read by John Keating.

Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book
NG Graveyard

- Read by the author. A huge bestseller, this book tells the story of Nobody Owens, called Bod, who would be a typical, normal boy -except that he lives in a graveyard and is being raised by ghosts. Bod cannot leave the graveyard, and the protection of the ghosts, without fear of danger from a man called Jack, who killed Bod's family.

Neil Gaiman's Stardust

Another Neil Gaiman favourite is Stardust (also read by the author), which was made into a film starring Claire Danes, Charlie Cox, Rupert Everett, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Robert DeNiro in a very against-type role. Our hero this time is Tristran Thorn, who sets off on a journey to find a star that has fallen to earth. He enters an enchanted realm that lies beyond the wall of his country town and begins a series of amazing adventures.

Esmé Raji Codell’s Diary of a Fairy Godmother
ERC Diary

Read by Rachael Lillis. This light-hearted romp tells the story of Hunky Dory, a young witch-in-training who is top of her class in charm school. Unfortunately for Hunky Dory, her heart just isn't in it -she prefers changing frogs back into princes. When she is kicked out of charm school, she sets off to become a fairy godmother. Along the way she grants wishes -including a very odd wish from a wolf who wants a grandmother costume - eventually meeting her career dream: Cinderella.
