NUMBER ONE ON BROADWAY IS HUGH JACKMAN

Hugh-Jackman-Back-On-BroadwayHE'S just one man, but Hugh Jackman is proving he can compete with the best of the big budget Broadway shows.

Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway has broken the Broadhurst Theatre box office record for the fourth time, taking in $US1.472 million ($1.5 million) for the week ending Sunday, according to figures released by the Broadway League.

The one-man show beat its own record of $US1.468 million for the previous week.

The show's takings were not far behind two of Broadway's big budget productions, The Lion King which earned $US2.08 million and Spider Man which grossed $2.07 million in the same period.

Jackman's 10-week show, accompanied by an 18-piece orchestra, includes performances and anecdotes from his film and stage career.

Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway surpassed box office takings of Billy Crystal's 700 Sundays, Hamlet starring Jude Law and The Merchant of Venice starring Al Pacino.

The show runs on Broadway until January 1.
