CHRISTMAS TRIVIA

  • "Although, it's been said, many times, many ways" is in the song “The Christmas Song”.
  • "Charlie Brown Christmas" debuted on CBS in December 1965. One of the very first animated Christmas TV specials, the show has aired every Christmas since.
  • "Hot cockles" was a popular game at Christmas in medieval times. It was a game in which the other players took turns striking the blindfolded player, who had to guess the name of the person delivering each blow. "Hot cockles" was still a Christmas pastime until the Victorian era.
  • "It's a Wonderful Life" appears on TV more often than any other holiday movie.
  • "Jingle Bells", "Winter Wonderland", and "Sleighride" are seasonal songs that do not mention Christmas.
  • "O, Come All Ye Faithful" a Christmas carol but "Deck the Halls" not. A true Christmas carol has to have a religious theme.
  • "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town" is full of threats and warnings about Santa Claus
  • "The Night Before Christmas was written by Clement C. Moore
  • "The Nutcracker" is the name for the ballet performed around Christmas time each year. "The Nutcracker Suite" is the title of the music Tchaikovsky wrote.
  • "Two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree." was True Love's gift on the second day of Christmas
  • "Wassail" comes from the Old Norse "ves heill"--to be of good health. This evolved into the tradition of visiting neighbours on Christmas Eve and drinking to their health.
  • "White Christmas" (1954), starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye, was the first movie to be made in Vista Vision, a deep-focus process.
  • “Jingle Bells” was originally titled "One Horse Open Sleigh"
  • “White Christmas” is the biggest selling Christmas single of all time.
  • A bell rings in the movie "It's A Wonderful Life" and you know that an angel has received his wings.
