VALENTINO’S VIRTUAL MUSEUM TO OPEN 5 DECEMBER

Valentino Garavani is an undisputed grand master of haute couture. Over the years, Valentino designs were always faithful to the designer's signature look: classy, elegant and feminine, with a dash of old-school glamour. When he retired from fashion with the 2008 Valentino Haute Couture show, the finale was delivered by a multitude of models in red dresses, the one garment he had revisited every season, without fail. The same red gowns that formed a guard of honour to bid Valentino farewell are now present to welcome guests to the Valentino Garavani Virtual Museum, which is due to open its digital gates on December 5th, 2011.

The work of the Italian fashion house and its eponymous designer has been celebrated in several previous retrospectives. In 1991, the Thirty Years of Magic exhibition in Rome and New York commemorated the designer’s 30-year anniversary in fashion, followed in 2007 by the retrospective Valentino a Roma: 45 Years of Style, which also marked his official retirement. In the past year, a Valentino retrospective titled Past, Present and Future has been on show in Brisbane and Singapore.

For those who haven't had a chance to visit any of these, the new virtual museum will offer the opportunity to view the extensive Valentino archives. Over 300 dresses, as well as sketches, illustrations, catwalk videos and red carpet pictures, will be on display, giving fans the opportunity to not only get a closer look at the intricate details of each garment, but to witness the inspiration behind it, as well as the fashionable moments that followed its inception.

The first international fashion designer to curate a digital real time 3D exhibition of his work, Valentino is obviously keen to prove that technical innovation is as much part of the Valentino story as are glamour, elegance and tradition.
