THE LIBERTY HOTEL, BOSTON USA

Always an architectural gem, what was once the iconic Charles Street Jail is now the stunning, vibrant Liberty Boston Hotel. Since opening in September 2007, the Boston luxury hotel quickly became the must-visit downtown Boston destination for visitors and local residents alike.

Five venues: CLINK, Alibi, Scampo, the Liberty Bar, and Catwalk anchor the hotel's 300 luxurious guestrooms. The Liberty Hotel is the perfect spot for experiencing all that Boston offers with easy access to the city from its prime downtown location at the foot of historic Beacon Hill.

Although oozing luxury throughout there are still signs of this beautiful hotel's history as a jail.  At the restaurant Clink and at reception there are original cell doors and clear signs of the buildings former role.

In its heyday, notable prisoners include former Boston Mayor James Michael Curley, Malcolm X, Ferdinando Sacco, and Bartolomeo Vanzetti. Also prisoners from German U-Boat 234 and the notorious Boston Strangler were housed here. During his 90 day stint in 1904 it was said that Curley used the time to his advantage and read every single book within the jail’s library.
