In this day and age of prescribed medications and in many cases the over-prescribing of medications, one can only be too careful when taking a new medication for the first time.
lf a medicine is prescribed, read the medicine's consumer medicine information (CMl) leaflet and ask the doctor questions about the medicine, such as:
- What the medicine is for?
- What is the active ingredient?
- How do I use or take this medicine correctly?
- What are the possible side effects and what can I do about them?
- What should or shouldn't I do while taking this medicine?
Also tell the doctor about any side effects, such as dizziness, abnormal bodily movements and constipation.
A great Australian resource for information is found at http://www.nps.org.au/medicines/
