  • Plutonium was developed by deuteron bombardment of uranium-238 in a cyclotron.
  • Podobromhidrosis is more commonly known as 'smelly feet'.
  • Pogonophobia is the fear of beards.
  • Polar bears can run as fast as 40 km/h.
  • Polytetrafluoroethylene is more commonly known as 'Teflon'.
  • Poor whites in Florida and Georgia are called "crackers." They got the name from their principal staple food, cracked corn. Another theory states that the name comes from the days when they would drive cattle southward using the "crack" of their bullwhips to keep the animals in line and moving.
  • Pope Paul IV, who was elected on 23 May 1555, was so outraged when he saw the naked bodies on the ceiling of the Sistene Chapel that he ordered Michelangelo to paint garments on to them.
  • Potato chips are American’s favourite snack food.  They are devoured at a rate of 1.2 billion pounds a year.
  • Potato chips were invented in Saratoga Springs in 1853 by chef George Crum.  They were a mocking response to a patron who complained that his French fries were too thick.
  • Powdered Tea was once used as a snuff to stop bleeding noses.
