HANGING VILLAGE OF HUAXI

The Hanging Village of Huaxi is a late-modernist-futurism supertall skyscraper in Wuxi, China. The mixed-use tower began construction in 2008. The opening of Hanging Village of Huaxi was on 12th October 2011. The building rises 328 m (1,076 ft) with 74 storeys and includes a glass sphere at the very top.

The village is located in east China's Jiangsu province and has expanded rapidly over recent years. It has gone from a population of around 1,600 in the 1960s to one of 50,000, today.

Once a poor farming community, it has boomed during the past 30 years of China's economic reform. Dubbed a "model socialist village", Huaxi's wealth is based on the collective funds of registered households who have amassed money in industries such as steel and textiles.

Most household revenues are reinvested into further projects on a mandatory basis, keeping the cycle going.

The new super structure was funded by 200 hundred village households, to the tune of £1million each. 'The building is a symbol of collectivism,' said Zhou Li, Huaxi's deputy Communist Party secretary.

The hotel boasts 800 suites that can hold 2,000 people, an exhibition hall, a revolving restaurant, and rooftop swimming pools and gardens. A sculpture of a bull, made from solid gold and reportedly weighing a tonne, has also been installed. The bull, a testament to the wealth of the village, will greet visitors from a viewing area on the sixtieth floor of the tower.
