Ricky Nelson's real first name isn't Ricky, it's Eric. Ricky Nelson was once married to Kristin Harmon, the daughter of Michigan football great Tom Harmon and actress Elyse Knox (daughter of U.S. Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox).

James Burton, Merle Haggard, Glen Campbell, Dave Burgess, and Waylon Jennings have each played guitar backup on Ricky Nelson's records.

Nelson sang only three songs on his 1957 debut album Teen Time (Verve Records). The other artists on the album were Randy Sparks, Jeff Allen, Gary Williams, and Rock Murphy. The three songs Nelson sang were A Teenager's Romance, I'm Walkin', and You're My One And Only Love.

Nelson wrote the liner notes for Johnny Burnette's 1960 album Dreamin'.

In his youth, Ricky once reached the semi-finals in the National junior Indoor Tennis Championships (doubles) held in St. Louis.

Ozzie Nelson, Rick's father, was a bandleader turned actor who at the age of 13 was the youngest Eagle Scout in the United States. Later he became an honour student at Rutgers.
