The social media phenomenon continues to grow.
Most people I know have Facebook accounts, Twitter, Instagram, Yelp!, Skype, etc, etc.
The world keeps getting smaller and smaller. But, just as you have very little expectation of privacy while you are walking on the street, social media does not afford much in the way of privacy either… especially for the unwary.
Legal systems throughout the world are struggling with a whole host of new questions about social media.
For example:
Can you use social media posts and digital pictures to prove things in court?
Can an anonymous post on a message board truly be anonymous or can you sue for defamation?
Is stalking and abuse a greater concern if you are involved in social media?
Can an employer demand access to your Facebook account as a condition of employment?
Remember to use social media responsibly especially in the work place.and in accordance with company guidelines.
Social media is not anonymous.
Enjoy the benefits, but beware of the pitfalls of this brave new world.
