Tom Cruise’s latest venture Jack Reacher is yet to open in several countries, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will struggle to make enough money to justify a sequel.
The action thriller has grossed $153m thus far, with THR sources claiming that the film will need to gross more than $250m for studio Paramount to even consider a follow-up.
Reacher will have to attract many cinema goers in Japan, China and Korea, which isn’t out of the question as Cruise is a huge star in Asia.
It is hardly the franchise starter that Paramount was hoping it would be and a long way from the gross of Cruise’s last film, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, which made $694.7m worldwide.
