  • Borneo and Sumatra is the only place you can see orang-utans in the wild. Humans share 97% genetic material with orang-utans - Orang is Malay for person and Utan is Malay for forest. Orang-utans are forest people who spend up to 95% of their time in trees. The distance, fingertip to fingertip, of an Orang-utan's arm span is approximately 8 feet (2.5 metres). Baby orang-utans are carried by their mother usually for about 5 years. Rehabilitated orang-utans are fed bananas and milk at the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary at about 10am and 3pm.
