Looking for a great start to 2014 travel wise? Why not take in the many cultural experiences in China and also visit the amazing International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival at the same time.

The festival will be held in Harbin from January 5 to February 28 when ice sculptures will be displayed throughout the city in two main exhibition areas. Sun Island is a recreational area on the opposite side of the Songhua River from the city. The second is the Ice and Snow World featuring illuminated full size buildings made form huge blocks of ice taken from the river.

Ice skating and dog sledding will also be available.

Harbin is the capital and largest city of the Heilongjjang Province in north-east China. Travelling on high speed bullet train for eight and half hours from Beijing, Harbin is also known as Eastern Moscow with Russian architecture blending into the local streets.

Central Street blends European architectural styles including renaissance and baroque along with cobblestone pedestrian avenues.
