Entry to 19th Century Insane Asylum

Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum 009

The 19th Century holds some dark secrets and many of these were not based on medical or scientific research. Many stories have come to light in which people were put into asylum s for what today is considered normal behaviours.

The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in West Virginia USA admitted “patients” from 1864 to 1889. Read below as to what was considered reasons for admission.

Many of these reasons are now considered hilarious but even so those who suffered inhumane treatment because of these  deserve an apology and in today’s trend of legal action, recompense would be assured.

After reading the list, are we ready to be interned?

With the recent GFC (Global Financial Crisis) and the continuing fallout, many a business man would have had “business nerves” .... Who would be left to run the business system that today is so essential?

This insane asylum has shut its doors — to patients anyway but heritage tours are able to be undertaken (I wonder with or without a straightjacket?), or a ghost tour as there is said to be paranormal activity takes place within the walls and corridors.

Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum is still open, but only for tours.
