Messiah (HWV 56), the English-language oratorio, was composed by George Frideric Handel between 22 August 1741 and 14 September 1741 in London.
With the text taken from Isaiah 9:6:
For unto us a Child is born,
unto us a Son is given,
and the government
shall be upon His shoulder;
and his name shall be called Wonderful,
Counsellor, the Mighty God,
the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.
