  • Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili is better known as Josef Stalin the Premier of the Soviet Union from 6 May 1941 until his death in 5 March 1953.
  • The University of Adelaide was established in 1874 and was founded on the basis of generous donations from Walter Watson Hughes and Thomas Elder. It is the third-oldest university in Australia.
  • The computer game firm Nintendo is based in Kyoto, Japan.
  • Australia’s oldest brewery is the Cascade Brewery in Tasmania and was established in 1824.
  • The Latin term cogito ergo sum means I think, therefore I am.
  • Bulgogi is a Korean dish that usually consists of grilled marinated beef, chicken or pork.
  • The Cedars, near Hahndorf South Australia was the home for world renown artist Sir Hans Heysen who was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1877.

  • Perth, Western Australia, has the largest inner-city park in the world, Kings Park. Kings Park is a 4.06-square-kilometre (1,003-acre) park and is home to over 300 native plant varieties and 80 bird species. Kings Park was designed in 1872.
  • The first element listed on the Periodic Table is Hydrogen and has the symbol H.
  • US statistician Nate Silver correctly predicted the winner of all 50 states in the 2012 Presidential election.
  • Native Australian brush tail possum is an omnivore - a kind of animal that eats either other animals or plants.
  • Following the expulsion from Iberia in 1492 the Cochin Jews also called Malabar Jews have had a settlement in India since the 16th century and are the oldest group of Jews in India, with possible roots claimed to date to the time of King Solomon.
  • Baikonur Cosmodrome, the world’s first operational space launch facility founded in June 1955, is located in Kazakhstan and is managed jointly by the Russian Federal Space Agency and the Russian Aerospace Defence Forces.
