  • In 1565 the Genoese military engineer Giovan Giacomo Paleari Fratino designed and built at Mortella (Myrtle) Point in Corsica the world's first Martello tower which are small defensive forts whose round structure and thick walls of solid masonry made them resistant to cannon fire.
  • Detective Superintendant Tony Clark, played by Neil Pearson, features in the BBC TV series Between the Lines from 1992 - 1994.
  • Australian country music singer-songwriter, John Williamson wrote the Australian anthemic song True Blue released in 1982.

  • Chinese-Indonesian journalist and filmmaker Tan Tjoei Hock's 1941 film Tengkorak Hidoep has been credited as the first horror film made in Indonesia.
  • The Olt River is the longest river flowing exclusively through Romania for 382 miles (615 km) before flowing into the Danube River.
