BARROWMAN’S
GARAGE SALE
Flyers advertising the sale offered “great deals” on furniture, collectibles and ornaments.
A posh Smeg double oven was even being flogged off.
“Everything must go – spread the word,” urged the flyer, decorated with Welsh flags as well as the Stars and Stripes.
And the Glasgow-born 43-year-old – wearing rimless specs, red checked trousers and a tight blue T-shirt – said: “I’m having a garage sale like any other citizen of South Wales!” On offer at the gazebo-covered driveway were some one-off Barrowman specials such as signed copies of Torchwood scripts as well as prints and memorabilia.
In fact the star, who plays Captain Jack Harkness in the Doctor Who spin-off, was on hand to sign every item on sale for an extra £1 on the ticket price – with a percentage of the proceeds going to local children’s hospice Ty Hafan.
“I’m just a regular citizen holding a normal garage sale to clear out a load of old junk and raise money for charity,” he said.
But it was not a “normal” garage sale. Outside his luxury pad was his three-year-old blue Peugeot 407 estate on sale for just under £7,000 while wardrobes, sofas and dressers were being auction off.
Tables were piled high with kitchen equipment from expensive Denby dining sets to silver table-top candelabras.
Hordes of locals squeezed round several clothes racks crammed full of the star’s old clothes.
One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: “It’s nice to see he’s part of the community.”
Despite the star holding a two-day “USA garage sale” at his £750,000 ocean view home to “clear out a load of old junk”, he insisted he will remain in Wales.
