IT’S NOW …
JUNE
June comes from the Roman Month Junius.
It is thought to be derived from Junonius – sacred to Juno – but Ovid wrote that it was derived from juniores meaning “youths” for a month dedicated to the young.
June Birthflower –
Rose – which blooms at its best in the Northern Hemisphere at this time of the year.
The Rose is associated with beauty and love and is sought after for its health giving and cosmetic properties. June is national Rose Month in the US.
June Birthstone –
Pearl – Chinese myth holds that these gems came form the brains of dragons. Pearls are associated with love and purity. Pearls were once used in shimmering make-up, partly for their beauty and partly for their supposed aphrodisiac effect.
June has two alternate birthstones – the moonstone
and the alexandrite.
June 1 is the first day of summer in the Northern Hemisphere and the first day of winter in the Southern Hemisphere.
