Sir Isaac Newton actually spent more time and wrote more books on alchemical studies that he did on the scientific work for which he is famous. His seventeenth century contemporary, Robert Boyle, wrote a book called The Sceptical Chymist, rejected alchemy entirely and placed chemistry on the purely scientific basis that it is today.
