REMINSICING … JOHNNY MATHIS

Johnny Mathis was a track star (six letter man) in high school and at San Francisco State College. He broke the broad-jump record at Washington High, set several track records at college, and was invited to try out for the 1956 Olympics.

Johnny was the first black ever elected president of San Francisco's Roosevelt Junior High School student body.

Johnny sang the title song for the 1973 film Walking Tall.

Johnny Mathis and Jane Oliver sang The Last Time I Felt Like This in the 1978 movie Same Time, Neil Year.

Johnny Mathis dubbed in Miss Piggy's singing voice for the 1979 film The Muppet Movie.

There is also a country western music recording artist named Johnny Mathis who is billed as "Country" Johnny Mathis.

Five of Johnny Mathis's hit songs had record numbers that ended in the numbers 93: Chances Are (Columbia a0993); The Twelfth of Never (Columbia 40993);" A Certain Smile (Columbia 41193); On A Clear Day You Can See Forever (Mercury 72493); and Too Much, Too Little, Too Late (with Deniece Williams) (Columbia 10693).
