REMINISCING ... MERCURY RECORDS

In. 1962, when Quincy Jones became the vice president of Mercury Records, he became the first black vice president of a major white record company.

Helen Reddy won an audition with Mercury Records by winning a talent contest in Australia during 1966. Mercury Records was so uninterested that they wouldn't even let her record.

In 1955, prior to recording for Chess Records, Chuck Berry was turned down by Mercury Records. However, Mercury did record Berry in 1967, only to have him again go back to Chess Records.

Over the years Mercury Records has released three different hit songs all titled The Look of Love; Look Of Love by Lesley Gore (Mercury 72372) in 1965, The Look Of Love by Dusty Springfield (Philips 40465) (distributed by Mercury) in 1967 and The Look Of Love by ABC (Mercury 76168) in 1982.
