AVENGERS SEQUEL CONFIRMED

Most semi-astute people already assumed there would be a sequel to the superhero blockbuster, especially after it raked in more than $200 million during its opening weekend, setting a new box-office record. More than $200 million in three days, guys. I’m not even sure Tony Stark makes that kind of cash that quickly.

But Robert Iger, CEO of Disney, which owns Marvel, officially confirmed during a conference call today that there will indeed be an “Avengers 2,” reports The Hollywood Reporter.

No details about a potential release date or a plotline have been revealed yet. But Iger did reiterate that “Iron Man 3” and “Thor 2” remain on track to arrive next year, while a second “Captain America” movie is slated to come out in 2014.

So basically, you won’t be able to get rid of “The Avengers” — as a group or individual super heroic entities — for the next several years.
