TRIVIA BITS … THE GRAND CANYON

 

The Grand Canyon contains more than ninety different kinds of rock. The dramatic colours that are seen are caused by the presence of mineral especially iron which gives the red colour. Mining in the canyon began in the nineteenth century mainly for copper and silver. During the 1950’s there was a boom in uranium mining as a result of the Cold War.
