MOVIE NEWS ... CHARLIE CHAPLIN

MOVIE NEWS ... CHARLIE CHAPLIN
When you buy on eBay, what you see advertised may be different may not totally describe what you will get. Such was the case for Marace Park, a British Antiques dealer. He thought he was bidding for an antique film can when he placed an order. What he received was a 6 minute, 35mm film that showed Charlie Chaplin with a film title slate “Zepped”. This movie contains Charlie Chaplin, Zeppelin bombers and Britain’s morale effort in WWI. Park has discovered that the film was a 1916 propaganda piece designed to rally the spirits of Britons terrorized by Germany’s zeppelin bombers. The film contains rare footage of zeppelins hovering over London, as well as a shot of a newspaper front page triumphantly reporting the downing of three airships. There’s also a bit of animation “that looks like it comes straight out of Monty Python,” Park says. The surprise package is to be the subject of a documentary showing Park and associates unravelling the mystery of this previously forgotten piece from Charlie Chaplin.
