BUBBLE WRAP DRESS

A custom made Bubble Wrap dress created entirely out of Bubble Wrap cushioning and packing tape for Megan Cramer to wear at the annual benefit for The 52nd Street Project (a non-profit theatre company based in New York City). The benefit theme was "Packing Peanuts: A Moving Experience," to celebrate the move into a new building---complete with their own theatre! The Project pairs children from the "Hell's Kitchen" neighbourhood with professional (volunteer) theatre artists to create original theatre.

Materials: Bubble Wrap, clear packing tape

betty_white

Beloved actress Betty White has laughed off reports she's landed a cameo role in the new "Men in Black" movie. Film websites claimed the former "Golden Girls" star had signed on for a part opposite Will Smith - but the 88 year old is adamant she won't be in the next instalment of the alien-fighting franchise.

In a post on his Twitter.com page, E! Online blogger Marc Malkin writes, "Just talked to Betty White. She said she is NOT going to be in Men in Black 3!!!"

WORKERS LIE ABOUT TAKING DAYS OFF FOR STRESS

stress1

Millions of people lie by claiming they have an upset stomach or that a relative is ill, rather than admitting they are taking off from work because they are stressed out.

One in five workers has taken time off for stress but almost all were too afraid to admit why they needed sick leave.

Seven out of ten would like to discuss the issue with their employers although one third want their manager to make the first move when they were showing signs of strain.

demi-moore-ashton-kutcher

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher have launched a new campaign with the bosses of Twitter and Google in a bid to stop human trafficking online. The stars, who formed the Demi and Ashton (DNA) Foundation to stop the practice, met with staff at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime on Thursday, November 4 to speak out about "modern day slavery" on the internet.

Kutcher says, "The truth is slavery globally is a dirty little secret. It is happening everywhere, right in front of our eyes and we ignore it. There are more slaves in the world today than ever before in world history. (It is happening) behind the closed doors of the Internet. Behind those closed doors you can make a purchase on the Internet and feel completely anonymous."

“FUNNY GIRL” RESTORED

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' "Monday Nights with Oscar®" series returns with a screening of "Funny Girl" (1968), starring Barbra Streisand, on Monday, November 15, at 7 p.m. at the Academy Theater at Lighthouse International in New York City. The series had been on hiatus for most of the year as the theater underwent major renovations.

Nominated for eight Academy Awards®, including Best Picture, "Funny Girl" is based on the hit 1964 Broadway musical. The film was directed by William Wyler from a screenplay by Isobel Lennart, who also wrote the Broadway book.

"Funny Girl" features an Oscar-nominated title song and score and such musical numbers as "Don't Rain on My Parade," "People," and "My Man." Streisand, reprising her onstage role as legendary Ziegfeld Follies comedienne Fanny Brice, gave a star-making performance that garnered her a Best Actress Oscar. The film co-stars Kay Medford in an Academy Award®-nominated performance, as well as Walter Pidgeon, Lee Allen, and Omar Sharif as Brice's husband, troubled gambler Nick Arnstein.

This recently restored print from the Sony Pictures vaults displays the vibrant Technicolor cinematography of Oscar nominee Harry Stradling, as well as costumes by Irene Sharaff.

MICHAEL JACKSON’S CIRQUE DU SOLEIL

POSTER

Michael Jackson’s estate has thrilled fans by unveiling the first images of acrobatic troupe Cirque du Soleil's highly-anticipated tour marking his music legacy. Jackson's estate executors signed a deal with Cirque producers to put on a stage spectacular featuring the "Thriller" hit maker's songs, after his tragic death in June, 2009.

On Wednesday, November 3, the new business partners unveiled the first images from the Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour, which is being billed as a combination of thrilling choreography and visual effects set to Jackson's music.

One set sketch features enlarged images of Jackson wearing his iconic Smooth Criminal white suit as acrobats and dancers explode from his body, mimicking his legendary moves. A new poster immortalises the star with the slogan 'The legend lives on'.

The tour, which has won Jackson's mother Katherine Jackson's personal approval, is set to kick off in Montreal, Canada in October 2011 and hit cities including New York, Miami, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Las Vegas - where it will reportedly be turned into a long term residency featuring 3-D technology.

THE LAST OF THE MISFITS

the-misfits-movie-poster-1020420586

Although no one knew it at the time, “The Misfits” would be the last film ever made by Gable and the last one finished by Monroe. Three days after the movie wrapped in 1960, Gable suffered his fourth heart attack; 11 days later he was dead at the age of 59.

Less than two years later, Monroe was found dead at the age of 36 in her Brentwood, Calif., home, the victim of either a suicide, accidental overdose or, some still insist, a conspiracy

The Misfits - Directed by John Huston. Starring Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Montgomery Clift and Thelma Ritter, was released 1 February 1961 in the US

GASOLINE AND PAINT – A TURN ON?

gasoline_pump

A new survey suggests that women get turned on by the smell of gasoline, paint, printer ink and leather on a man, apparently because they call to mind romantic moments.

TV relationship expert Simone Bienne said, “Some weird and wonderful smells can transport us back to a happy memory. This in turn makes us feel more relaxed and drawn to someone.”

Meanwhile, men like their women smelling of lipstick, baby lotion and roasted meat.

Boyle is now preparing to follow up her papal performance with a royal bow at the upcoming Pride of Britain show in London next week. In a statement, she says, "It's going to be a real privilege to be performing before His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales. It's going to be a great night. I can't wait to be there."

SWANK THANKFUL FOR BEING FIRED

hilary-swank

Hilary Swank is glad she was fired from "Beverly Hills, 90210" - because she wouldn't have gone on to win an Oscar for "Boys Don't Cry" if she'd stayed on the show. The "Million Dollar Baby" actress was hired to play single mother Carly Reynolds in the U.S. programme and was told she would be signed up for at least two years.

Swank was devastated when TV bosses wrote her character out after just 16 episodes in 1998. Now she's opened up about the experience, insisting she is "thankful" she was dropped from the series, because she went on to land a role in "Boys Don't Cry", which won her a Best Actress Academy Award and a Golden Globe.

She tells Total Film magazine, "It is weird. There's a lot of luck involved in a career, so I'm thankful I got fired off of 90210 because three months later I got Boys Don't Cry. I wouldn't have gotten that movie had I stayed on the show, so it was always about trusting fate and learning about the business along the way."
