MOVIE NEWS … AVATAR COMES BACK

MOVIE NEWS

AVATAR COMES BACK

James Cameron and 20th Century Fox have decided to re-release Avatar into Digital 3-D and IMAX 3-D theatres on August 27th, complete with over 8 minutes of never before seen footage!

Did the movie not make enough money the first time around? Was breaking just about every box-office record imaginable somehow not fulfilling enough? Or are Cameron and Fox still butt-hurt over losing the Best Picture Oscar to The Hurt Locker and the Best Achievement in Directing Oscar to ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow? Do 8 minutes of new footage really justify a theatrical re-release, especially when there's a feature-laden 3-D Blu-Ray waiting around the corner?

"Since - and largely as of result of - Avatar's release last December, the number of available digital 3D screens has exploded, and moviegoers who missed experiencing the film in 3D, as well as fans that want to return to Pandora again, will now have that opportunity," 20th Century Fox said.

The movie has already grossed over $2.7 billion dollars worldwide and is the highest-selling high definition disc ever created, despite the fact that it's been highly publicized that a super-duper special 3-D multiple disc set with tons of extra features, and presumably the 8 extra minutes of footage mentioned above, is in the works and will be on store shelves sometime next year.
