COMPETITIVE PARENTS GIVING CRAZY GIFTS TO TEACHERS

Competitive parents have turned the tradition of giving a Christmas gift to teacher into a race to ‘keep up with the Joneses.’ They’re also giving lavish gifts in the hopes of gaining favour for their kids.

The Daily Mail found that some parents routinely spend up to $200 on designer coats, dresses and handbags, cashmere cardigans, perfumes, watches, champagne and crystal glasses.

The research, conducted by Debenhams, found that the average parent spends $85 on their child’s end of term present for their teacher, with many spending over $120 and even up to $400 where they have more than one child.

The trend has been particularly acute at primary schools.
