TONY PERKINS … FROM MY HEART 1958

From My Heart - Tony Perkins
Featuring: Urbie Green and His Orchestra, Arrangements by Al Cohn

Tony Perkins will undoubtedly be best remembered for his considerable cinematic contributions rather than musical ones. However during the late '50s, Perkins demonstrated remarkable versatility as a sensitive vocalist on a series of pop recordings

From My Heart was the second album recorded by actor Anthony Perkins. There was an effort in the late 1950s to turn him into a recording star, which was largely unsuccessful, although he did have a Top 30 hit with "Moonlight Swim". While Tony's singles were typical "teen pop" songs of the era, his albums were more "adult pop". I guess record companies at the time thought "kids buy singles, adults buy albums" (which was more or less true). Tony has a decent singing voice here. He manages to hit the notes, but sings with very little feeling. This is a decent album, but it's not really anything special. It will be of interest only to Anthony Perkins fans.

  1. How perfectly lovely. I must be more of a fan than I realized. Perkins' Speak Low" really sustains the melody and lyric all the way - you could really hear the actor he became, too. The recognizability of his voice lent some credence to the authenticity of bringing something of himself to each of his screen portrayals. I can see where they were going with the album - I think it's marvelous. Thanks for posting.
