TRIVIA BITS

  • Cancer claims forty victims an hour in America.
  • Cannibalism, eating human flesh, is also called anthropophagy.
  • Capsaicin, which makes hot peppers “hot” to the human mouth, is best neutralized by casein, the main protein found in milk.
  • Captain Cook was the first man to set foot on all continents except Antarctica.
  • Captain Jean-Luc Picard's fish was named Livingston.
  • Captain Kirk never said "Beam me up, Scotty," but he did say, "Beam me up, Mr. Scott."
  • Carbonating beverages, introducing CO2 into the drink mix under pressure, makes the drink slightly more acidic (carbonic acid), which serves to sharpen the flavour and produces a slight burning sensation.  It also helps preserve the drink longer without going bad.
  • Carnegie Hall in New York City opened in 1891 with Tchaikovsky as guest conductor.
  • Carolyn Shoemaker has discovered 32 comets and approximately 800 asteroids.
  • Cars were first started with ignition keys in 1949.
